I saw #Aladdin today and…

I got the little family up and out for a matinee today. I love going to the movies in the morning, I have no idea why but I just do. Maybe it’s the smaller crowds or maybe it’s the discounted price but I love it. Plus if you see a movie in the morning you still have the whole day left to do whatever you want! Anyway I don’t think I can spoil this movie because it’s a remake but I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. The cinematography is amazing. I got a little misty at the magic carpet scene… don’t tell anyone.  And although no one will ever be able to replace Robin Williams as the original Genie I think Will Smith found his zone with the character.

The one thing I must point out that I really loved was the homage to the Nicholas Brothers in Genie’s song “Friend Like Me.” I rewatched “Stormy Weather” just last weekend. “Stormy Weather” if you are not familiar is a 1943 film with an all black cast, rare at that time, starring Lena Horne, Bill Robinson, Cab Calloway, the Nicholas Brothers, to name a few. If you have not seen this film you should. The Nicholas Brothers were amazing dancers for any era and to see their choreography in this 2019 film shows just how phenomenal they were.

Anyway definitely go see Aladdin and see if you catch the Nicholas Brothers choreography! (Check out their dance in “Stormy Weather” below!)
